TPLF Accuses OPDO of Secessionism

As a sign of the escalating attack on OPDO, a pro-regime newspaper Sendeq alleges that the OPDO is resisting TPLF’s interference because it harbors a secessionist agenda. Citing unnamed sources, the paper claims that those who complain about the process and outcome of the succession and those who are opposed to TPLF interference in OPDO’s internal organizational affairs are the “ones infested with OLF’s ideology, and want to break away Oromia.” It is ironic that Bereket Simon, whose motherland Eritrea broke away from Ethiopia, has the nerve to try to gain political capital by accusing OPDO of secessionism.

The paper further claims that OPDO was shut out of  senior  post at the party and executive branch because it failed to develop capable leaders. This ridiculous assertion is part of the psychological warfare popularized by the departed Prime Minister to legitimizing denying real power to OPDO, whose members make up 57% of the EPRDF’s rank and file. Meles once uttered such nonsense in a response to an Oromo student who asked him why Oromos are denied political power comparable with their numeric size and economic contribution to the federation. After agreeing with the student’s assessment (this was 2005 and Meles was working hard to win over Oromos), he said “ I am willing to give up my post to an Oromo, but I am unable to find a capable replacement as the educated Oromos have run away.” Another student fired back and turned Meles’ lousy excuse upside down: “Sir, please give the power to me, because if you, a sophomore drop out, can run this country for so long, I, who just completed my masters, am surely qualified to govern it better.” He then jokingly apologized saying “please pardon me if I offended you; I am from Dire, and down there, our parents don’t teach us how to be politically correct.” The tyrant characteristically smiled to cover his visible embarrassment.

It is not the first time this newspaper has attacked the OPDO. It is this very paper that waged a character assassination campaign against Juneydi Sado, former president of Oromia and current minister of the Civil Service by accusing his wife of terrorism and chastising the minister  for defending the innocence of his wife who is still in detention.

In recent months,Sendeq  has replaced the now defunct  Eftin and Ethio Channel papers as the mouthpiece of the intelligence services. Eftin and later Ethio Channel were  known for publishing defamation against the regime’s opponents. Eftin, owned by the notorious former VOA journalist, Mimi Sebehatu,  came to  prominence during the aftermath of the 2005 election when it regularly published transcripts of the Coalition for Unity and Democracy’s  leadership meeting gained from wire tapping.  It ceased publication in 2007 and then was replaced by one named  Ethio Channel which  suddenly fell out of favor and its owner Samson Mamo was thrown into jail along with his wife. The immediate cause of his demise is said to be his decision to publish Juneydi Sado’s open letter denouncing the defamation campaigns waged at him. Now Sendeq has taken over the role previously played by Eftin and  Ethio Channel.

According to sources, Sandeq is financed by Al Amoudi, the Saudi billionaire,    who has been at odds with OPDO for quite some time. The flash point of the dispute goes back to 2005. When Meles was trying to do everything in his power to appease Oromos in order to isolate the CUD. After reversing the decision to remove the seat of Oromia government from Finfinne to Adama, an initiative was kicked off to build an Oromo Heritage Center in the capital. At the fundraising event for this project, Al Amoudi promised that he will match the amount raised on that day. Oromos came from all walks of life and contributed millions. But after the construction of the center began, Al Amoudi refused to pay the money he promised. Angered by this betrayal, the Oromia regional government, under Abadula’s leadership, decided to fund the project from its own budget. The region also confiscated thousands of hectares of land that had been given to Al Amoudi for failing  to fulfill the terms of the lease, to develop the land within a limited time frame.

Moreover, when Al Amoudi’s farm at Bishaan Gurrachaa (between Shashamene and Awasa) was mysteriously burned down , Al Amoudi’s surrogates accused OPDO leaders of sabotage. Furthermore, when Oromos of Guji waged an intensive protest against toxic wastes released from the Midroc gold mines, Al Amoudi promised to compensate the Guji zone by donating 15 million birr to community development projects, only to backtrack afterwards. Al Amoudi’s repeated false promises to a region where three-fourth of Midroc’s operations takes place infuriated the regional administrators who in response erected bureaucratic hurdles to the billionaire’s extensive business operations. Therefore, the Sheik’s operatives were waging intensive smear campaign against key OPDO leaders, particularly Abadula, Juneydi and Girma Birru. They were openly claiming victory for removal of Girma Birru from the ministerial post he held for a long time. The Sheik and his men are therefore too happy to throw his weight behind TPLF in their intensified attack on OPDO.

In a related news the OPDO Central Committee has reconvened today September 29, 2012, for the third time since Meles’s death. While electing party and regional leadership is still on the top of the agenda, issues related to TPLF’s aggressive interference are expected to dominate the discussion. In anticipation, TPLF in its part is planning to make the issue of “OLF infiltration of OPDO” the first agenda item. Towards this end, the intelligence service has been ordered to compile a dossier showing connection between several vocal members of the Central Committee and the ‘terrorist’ organization. Outside the CC, targets might include the OPDO members of parliament who ‘missed’ Hailemariam’s swearing in. Over half of the the 180  Oromo MP’s did not show up for the emergency secession leading TPLF  to suspect that their absence might have been a result of the spread of disaffection within OPDO’s rank and file.

One thing is very clear. The TPLF is very predictable. Whatever issues the Oromos raise is portrayed as OLF infiltrators or secessonist agenda and the non Oromo people of the south should know this lie and reject it. Because this is to scare other groups in to supporting the TPLF against the Oomos. They used this tactic again and again.

It seems the OPDO has finally embraced the quintessential spirit of Oromummaa – never to be ruled by aliens in our own land – and the TPLF thugs do not like it. There is no doubt the blood suckers from Tigray will soon unleash their familiar campaign of terror against OPDO leaders but they should be reminded that this time around the OPDO has the entire Oromo nation behind them. They must know that any aggressive action by the TPLF against OPDO leaders will be reciprocated by appropriate action against TPLF interests anywhere and everywhere in Oromia.

We know how the former President of the Oromia region Abadula steped down from Presidency and Ato Girma Biru from his Ministrial post.

The current dispute between OPDO and TPLF clearly shows that TPLF has a strong hatred and under estimation for the Oromo people. Let alone OLF, they donot even allow OPDO govern Oromia. They are to bring the ccoloniliasm mechanism from neocolonialism to direct colonialism.

Dear Jawar. You are doing a very good work and we expect more. We all came to realize that OPDO is one of the fronts where we, the Oromo can show how we righteously resist the foreign imposition by working together. Such accusations like the one you referred to on Sendeq happened to be the Modus operandi of low-cultured totalitarians. When they lose their sleep by trying to condemn the OPDO as secessionist, the OPDO should prevail by showing that they are the bearers of the true both political and economic solution for the entire Empire, not necessarily by adopting a new political platform, but by insisting to unwaveringly promote and implement the essence of the constitution the EPRDF ratified. Insisting to implement what is on the papers of EPRDF government is the winning card for OPDO. Besides, when I say the TPLF interference has to be stopped by using the same internal party rules and regulations the TPLF is using to impose its will, I want OPDO to be very strong and well organized and well informed to force the TPLF to acknowledge that the OROMO is the power to work together, for their own benefit, not the easy “jalee” to order around. The OPDO can harvest a great deal of political and social capital by resisting TPLF’s hidden agenda and ulterior motives, by reaching out for other coalition members, as a competent coalition-member than as heartless and spineless “yes-partner”.

If this is true, please let’s stand with OPDO to widen the fracture of TPLF and defeat them once and for all.As we all know, there is a hidden fracture in TPLF and the neftegna group trying to fix this fracture like they have fixed the fracture between Eseye Abreha and the demise. TPLF as well as Neftegna are on their way to their grave. Let’s grave it widly and dipply so that there will be enough space for all of them and make it impossible to out of there for ever. Then Oromia will be a real nations once and for all. Waaqa Oroomoon Oroomiyaan yaa’ebiissuu!!!!!!!

It is very clear that OPDO is still under coloney of Habasha that is why it is necessor for TPLF to impose their intelegence to be as a OPDO leader. If the federation is ture to serve all Ethiopans why can’t OPDO make a decision what is good for Oromo people with in EThiopia. This is clear that TPLF (EPDRF) is no diffrent from Menilik, Hailesilase, Derg. So if this time TPLF kept pushing aginst OPDO to replace their agent with OPDO leader we all need to walk up and decolanize the entire regime. Habasha is underming the Oromos as their fellow Ethiopians and repeatedly violating the terms and conditions to fedaralism that OPDO accepted. Now its TPLFs bst intrest not to push the elemphant to start him. if this is done, TPLF migh not survive if OPDO turns aginst TPLF. The Oromo intellecuals, students, farmers, business individuals, relegeous groups all need to come together to stand aginst this opressive act of TPLF.

His {Jawars’} move is always beyond his age as a wise journey for the cause of our national destiny via our hero Bahiru Tumsas’ vision. He is the best fighter for his nation what the Oromo nation counting on him as the leader in Qubee generation and who shakes up our foes for that matter. His messages have a great input for our movement in unifying the Oromiyaan forces including our OPDOS who bitterly confronting the TPLF and other our historical enemies. Now it is the high time for the Oromo nation to stand with True OPDOs against the TPLF and defending our national interest by true Oromummaa. As we have a historical TUMSA when we feel our existence as a nation treatened in such way by the minority outsiders, it is the time of national anger to re- gain our nation Identity in the Horn as the 2nd largest nation in Africa after Hausa. Imagine the poverty driven TPLF arrived at this level with determination for the well being of their nation, we too must come together in any form for our national survive and take the lead as a great nation for stability and development of the Horn.

I would be cautiously optimistic. We Oromos do not know how to play carefully and skillfully. So, we give away our agenda as well as ourselves. Another thing that we lack is unity and unanimity. I wish I could say that OPDO has learned important lessons from their uprise against the TPLF hegemony in the early 2000s when Meles’s moto was to ” separate bees from flies” within the OPDO. He planted moles such as Shifarraw Jaarsoo to study who was who and boy o boy….plucked out all those with a slight feelings of nationalism and replaced them with
yessirs. Another wave of assault against the party members came a couple years ago. This time it may or may not be be different. time will tell.

    Tuuta’a and some others alike
the thing you are dreaming could never be realized in this modern world and in the forceable future. it is completely irratinal to think that the north as branch and the south and oromia are the roots. One genuine Ethiopian who wish prosperous, democratic, united Ethiopia should not think that one is root or the other as branch and there is no reason one to be labelled as this and that acxept that it is in the mined of some minedless people like you. There is only one and only one option for all Ethiopians(Ethiopia and Absynia are one and the same axcept for those backward successionist people who chose to live in their own way of old fashioned political thinking based on hate pinpointing derogatory concepts)that is building the country together in a away we all eqaully exersise rights, and benefit the pleasure thereofe. we all should struggle to avoid injustice, discriminatation, seperate development like that of south African aparthied system, domination by very few clan of what ever sort.
Shane for those of you think succession as a solution in this modern time for two reasons
    1) You are completely blined of the long standing interaction and mifing up of all Ethiopians and the power of Ethiopian identity. this is completely against the interests of all Ethiopians including the Oromos.
    2) these people are the king that suffer inferiority complex with zero confidence to asure their all necessary rights while in the framework of Ethiopian identity. succession is always the quastion of MINORITIES and OTHERWISE COWARDS who do not have the confidence to asure their rights in whatever way.
3)these people are the king that are in a deep hatred to themselves, their efforts, their history, their pschology and emotions as a member of a group and they usaully need to extrapolate this in to others.
It is not time for those who denay the proturuded facts and historical, social relations that binds all Ethiopians together to live forever as one and the same. For those of you misdirected towads succession , please rething again and again that the modern history of your country is crucially done by the OROMOs and do not try to spoile the history that your fathers have courageously carried out.

NARROW NATIONALISTS. When the government says let’s share the national cake….Oromos reply “We want it all”. lies lies lies. You are given a post (e.g speaker of the house) in the government instead you preferred the wild jungle life (e.g turning to OLF).

    Girum,

You are making a big mistake by calling Oromo’s a narrow nationalists. First of I don’t believe you know the meaning of it(Narrow Nationalism). Narrow nationalism and chauvinism co-exit. If you know about narrow nationalism I hope you also know about chauvinism is. If you are not sure what chauvinism is please google it. You will do yourself a favor by learning and not calling Oromos as narrow nationalists. Therefore, narrow nationalism and chauvinism have been born together and die together. There is no humanly possible way to kill one and the other on survives.

    Jawar:

I am so proud of you – You are the bright light at a time when Oromo Ethiopians have been subjected to indignity, humiliation and defeat. Please keep up the good work – I can see light at the end of the tunnel where Oromos like you will lead the millions of downtrodden Oromos to victory.

I feel honored to read articles posted by our Oromo writers. Jawar and others, please keep moving. Let’s tell the northern tyrants that their system has become century old and doesn’t work any more. To all Oromos I urge them to back OPDO- let’s forget the past events and remove our enemy, esp. the Tigreans.

Junedi Sado has become a sacrificial lamb in the drama being orchestrated by the TPLF as a part of its strategy drawn up to crack down on the activists of the Muslim community movement in the country. The TPLF is trying to portray the just rights movement of the Muslim protesters as a grand scheme behind which there are external forces such as Saudi Arabia. The authors and producers of the drama, namely, the TPLF security apparatus, have somehow decided to include a high ranking government official character in the drama to lend it some credence. This whole saga of portraying the plain and just rights movement of the Ethiopian Muslim community as a grand scheme with the alleged backing of external forces (“historic enemies”) has been intended to win over some domestic and international sympathy and support.

Junedin Sado has been chosen to play this high ranking official character knowingly or unknowingly – consensually or unconsensually. In addition to boosting the credence to the drama, the drafting of Junedi into the drama was welcomed as a two-thronged approach as it also helps them accomplish their long held desire of getting rid of him. Junedi has been viewed by many as a misfit in the TPLF regime all along. The fact that he has been rotated through three ministerial portfolios in a short span of five years attests to this glaring fact. Of the three portifolios two were newly constituted ministries with Junedi as the maiden minister. As an educated Oromo with best academic credentials in the OPDO, and as an accomplished technocrat and astute politician, the TPLF officials have always viewed him with unnerving suspicions and scathing uneasiness and they kept him at arm’s length right from day one. The more they know him, the more suspicious they have become.

As the result, they have been waiting for the right moment to get rid of him. They now think that the current movement of the Ethiopian Muslim community has presented them the opportunity to show Junedi the door and probably put him behind bars for a long term. In order to implement it, they plotted in the drama the detention of his wife with a false pretext of serving as a conduit for alleged financial support of the Saudi Embassy in Ethiopia for the protest movement of the Muslim community. With that, Junedi along with his family is being used as a sacrificial lamb for the TPLF’s eminent plot to crackdown on our Muslim brethrens.
